Montenidoli

San Gimignano | Tuscany | Italy

Elisabetta Fagiuoli and her long time partner Sergio Muratori arrived at Montenidoli in 1965 to a farm in disrepair. They worked tirelessly to renovate and restore the vineyards and olive groves to a healthy environment. Even though the area surrounding the Tuscan city of San Gimignano is the home of the Vernaccia grape, Elisabetta saw promise here for Sangiovese and worked exclusively with red wines for the first several years.

Today, the organically farmed estate is over 200 hectares, with only 20 devoted to vineyards. The name Sono Montenidoli means “we are Montenidoli,” a dedication to the important sense of community and belonging that Elisabetta reminds visitors of.

The lineup of wines includes Vernaccia-based whites, a rosato of Canaiuolo that she considers her “champagne,” and an in-depth study of Sangiovese, from Chianti Colli Senesi all the way to the top tier Triassico. Today, her foundation in honor of Sergio is a beacon for Montenidoli that provides support and guidance through nature to both youth and elderly at the estate.
